I was the lead in-house graphic designer on the American Museum of Natural History's largest capital project in 20 years, the Richard Gilder Center for Science, Education, and Innovation. After an early design phase by RAA, I defined the visual language for the graphics in the Vivarium, as well as designing and producing every one of the individual graphics in this hall. I did lots of my own photo research, illustration, and project management.
The Butterfly Vivarium has been a seasonal staple of the American Museum of Natural History for over 20 years, and with the opening of the Gilder Center it was made permanent. This exhibit houses 80 live species of butterflies, and around 200 graphics. The circular "lollipop" graphics are nestled throughout the space with context-specific information, to create an immersive and multi-sensory experience. A rail of butterfly ID graphics provide easy identification and fun facts about every species.
